We didn’t think we would make it to this skatepark.

I met a local in Bogotá who said he lived on the border of the ghetto and knew a couple of skating friends who lived in the neighborhood who could show us around.

Stupidly, I got in an unmarked yellow taxi whose driver thought I was up to no good and tried to stitch me up and take me to the police. I threw way too much money at him when the vehicle stopped in traffic and ran from the cab. Luckily, I found another taxi driver who, after much convincing, agreed to drive me to my friend’s place.

Holy ship, what an incredible experience. I was treated like absolute royalty by the most accommodating locals, who showed me the skatepark and the hood, and were so lovely.

Before I knew it, we were rolling around with the Latin Kings. Twelve hours had passed us by, and it was the wee hours of the morning. Such a gangster experience, which I will cherish for the rest of my life. I am muchas gracias full of appreciation for everyone that I met along the way who was so lovely, kind, and generous. But unless you’re a local, we wouldn’t suggest skating this park. Glad to get in and out with some pics, but in hindsight, definitely not worth the risk.

The skatepark comprises a single bowl that is lit up under lights, featuring fresh concrete, standard steel coping, and medium to tight transitions.
